A Bit of Henna

Amy and 12 High School Students

Yesterday, I started teaching a Magazine Publishing course to high school students spending their summer at the UW Campus via American Collegiate Adventures. Some things I’ve learned so far:

  1. High schoolers are much older than I remember.
  2. High schoolers are such babies!
  3. High schoolers are hard to entertain.
  4. High schoolers are so easy to entertain – just talk about celebrities.
  5. Teaching high schoolers is much the same as teaching college kids.
  6. High schoolers are nothing like college kids.

In other words, I’m still getting the hang of it. :)

I am, however, enjoying myself immensely. The students are interesting, surprisingly enthusiastic and continuously make me laugh. So far, so good!

Short Walk to My Car After Concert on the Square

It was muggy and hot, and my blanket and my clothes were damp, and my hair was stringy, and my tummy was full of guacamole, and my teeth were slightly purple from drinking red wine, and I had many, many mosquito bites, and there were people on a balcony waving sparklers that smelled firey and wonderful, and it felt, for the first time this year, like summer.
